Introduction

SIB Amsterdam, aka the Dutch United Nations Student Association, is recognised by the United Nations as an official UN student association. SIB was founded on 30th November 1947 and started as a movement that strived to create world peace. Since 1980, it functions as the student association that we know today.

We have over 200 members, from diverse fields of study, but all share a common interest in international relations. We are a politically neutral association, and open to both Dutch and international students and young adults from 18 to 35 years old.

As a member of SIB-Amsterdam, you'll get the opportunity to meet new likeminded friends and get unlimited access to all events as weekly drinks, monthly dinner parties, game and movie nights and travel up to four times a year abroad.

Our members also have opportunities to go on monthly excursions to international oriented organisations, such as embassies, ministries, multinational companies and NGOs. Here you can ask all your questions to professionals and experts on international matters. And get a first peek at your dream career workspace...

As for our flagship activities, SIB-Amsterdam organises monthly lectures in the theatre hall in CREA. Here you will get the opportunity to learn in-depth insights on current global affairs, from prominent speakers, academics and politicians.

In the past we had the honour to welcome Frans Timmermans, Sadet Karabulut, Alexander Rinnooy Kan, Frits Bolkestein, Kader Abdolah, Dries van Agt, Maarten van Rossem and many more.

Unlike other student associations, at SIB we don’t believe in a hazing process. You are welcome to our events whenever you want without any obligations. We believe that the quality of our events is the determining factor that makes our association so popular.

If you’re interested in gaining professional experience for your future career, you can join one of our executive committee or societies to help organise the events mentioned above. You are also welcome to come up with your own ideas for an event and SIB will provide you with a platform to help you organise them.

While being a member of SIB you won’t just have access to all the SIB events; you will also get discounts on books, external events and more. We have several partners that offer special deals as a member. Moreover, by being a member of SIB-Amsterdam you get updates on vacancies for internships and summer schools related to the field of International Relations.

You can read more below about what activities our societies and committees organise for you as a member.

We hope to see you soon at our events. We want to make sure that you will have an unforgettable experience during your student life with us.
