Chair: Xinyu Lin

I’m Xinyu, the Chair of CEA. I’m Chinese and a second year student at UvA majoring in Global arts, culture and politics. The Committee External Activities (CEA) of SIB provides members with unique opportunities to engage with national and international organizations through visits, lectures, and workshops aiming to deepen understanding of global issues by connecting students with experts in various fields.

The Committee External Activities (CEA) is the SIB committee that organizes visits to national and international organizations through lectures or workshops. We also arrange various online lectures and conferences during pandemic times to deepen our understanding of the world.

In recent years, we have visited the Canadian and Jordanian Embassy in the Netherlands. Furthermore, we have been at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amnesty International, UNICEF, EUROPOL, Hivos Institute, Greenpeace, and many more. These monthly excursions include speeches, workshops, and interactive Q&A sessions where students can ask high-ranking officials and experts tough questions about current political affairs. CEA meets every two weeks to plan these activities in a relaxed environment, fostering a sense of community while preparing for insightful events.

Every two weeks, the committee discusses the upcoming activities while enjoying a drink and/or snack. This way, we combine togetherness with organizing the activities and getting to know your fellow committees in this way.

The CEA is perfect for individuals passionate about international relations, diplomacy, and global affairs. It’s ideal for those who enjoy organizing events and coordinating visits to embassies, institutions, and international organizations. If you have a strong interest in expanding your understanding of global issues, looking to build a professional network and develop connections with diplomats, officials, and other professionals in the field, CEA is the right fit for you.
