Personal, political and cultural perspectives about the Tigray war
An ongoing armed conflict in the Northern region of Ethiopia

Dear guests,

In this event, we aim to give you an in-depth overview of the current situation in the Northern region of Ethiopia. The Tigray War is an ongoing armed conflict that began in November 2020 in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia, between two sides: the Tigray Regional Government, led by the Tigray People's Liberation Front and forces supporting Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. Our guest speakers will inform us about what we need to know about this armed conflict that led to tens of thousands of refugees fleeing the Tigray region into Sudan, besides from internally displaced people. What are the most prevalent risks for humanitarian work, especially when communication with and transport to the Tigray region is blocked by Ethiopian authorities? Senior External Relations Officer Chris Melzer will explain more about this, since she is working on the UN Mission in Ethiopia. Besides, we will discuss the historical background of the country with its diversity in ethnicities and languages. Well known Dutch comedian Mo Hersi will share his experiences and thoughts on this. He often speaks about diversity and immigration and is a refugee from Ethiopia in The Netherlands. Lastly, two Ethiopian students will share their perspectives about the current situation of their home country as well.

By attending an event of Connecting Conversations you will not experience something like any online discussion. Following our events will bring you closer to understanding different perspectives about important topics. Our world is affected by polarization, media bubbles and media distrust why we tend to understand each other less. Our events aim to connect, inspire, and educate people by generating a deeper understanding towards different perspectives by sharing personal stories and experiences. Are you willing to broaden your horizon?
