*** Due to COVID related circumstances, we have decided to host this lecture online instead of in person at the UvA. If you have signed up for the event, you will receive a link via email to join online. Thank you for your understanding! ***

It is out of the question that climate change is one of the most important challenges humanity is facing right now. But have you ever wondered who is actually the most responsible for the current global warming and how this affects international relations? How do different states balance their interests and responsibilities to reach the common goals of the Paris Agreement and other international treaties? And what sustainability policy has been developed by the Dutch government?

It is now time for you to find out! As part of the 2021 SIB Introduction Week, under the theme of “Environment and energy after the pandemic”, the CIA will be hosting a lecture on the topic of Climate Diplomacy. For this event, we are happy to welcome the Dutch Climate Ambassador, H.R.H. Prince Jaime de Bourbon de Parme, and the Dutch Climate Youth representative, Aoife Fleming, to talk about their experiences with International Climate Diplomacy. Additionally, they will touch upon the role of the Netherlands in these international negotiations, especially relative to that of other large CO2 emitters. Through these exchanges, we hope to get a behind-the-scenes look of international climate negotiations and the drafting of international climate treaties.

This lecture will be an online event. The event starts at 20:00 and lasts till 22:00. During the event, the audience has an opportunity to ask questions to our speakers, and approach them at the end of the event. If you want to attend, don’t forget to sign up on our website! Hope to see you there!
